- Robin Mattson
Robin Mattson has literally been acting her entire life. Known primarily for her work in daytime television, the actress has never originated any role that she has played on daytime TV, but rather inherited the role from another actor and making the character distinctly her own. Her early daytime credits include Heather Webber on "General Hospital" and Gina Timmons on "Santa Barbara." Miss Mattson can definitely be considered one of daytime's most popular actors. Each character she plays comes alive with her own brand of impish humor and ability to make even the most heinous character quirky and lovable. She has four Emmy Award nominations and six Soap Opera Digest Awards -- three for Best Comedic Performance and three for Best Villainess.
As a child in Los Angeles, Miss Mattson's career at the age of six in series, including "Daniel Boone" and "The John Forsythe Show." Her feature film debut, "Namu, The Killer Whale" paired her with future All My Children co-star, Lee Meriwhether. Namu's success led her to roles on "Gentle Ben," "Flipper," "The Six Million Dollar Man," and "Island of the Lost."
Always savvy and intelligent, Miss Mattson attended high school and college simultaneously through an advanced placement program for gifted students, and studied psychology before returning to acting. Television series credits include "Charlie's Angels," "Happy Days," "Silk Stalkings," and most recently, Aaron Spelling's pilot, "Green Dolphin Beat." Motion pictures for television include "Mirror, Mirror," "Are You Alone in the House?," "Doctors' Private Lives," "False Witness" and "Murder at the PTA." Robin has appeared in the feature films, "Return to Macon County" opposite Nick Nolte and Don Johnson," In and Out" with Sam Bottoms, "Take Two" with Grant Goodeve and "Wolf Lake" with Rod Steiger. She is also reported to have appeared au naturel in the flick "Candy Striped Nurses."
In 1994, after a break from daytime, Miss Mattson inherited the role of the off-kilter Janet Green on All My Children from fellow daytime diva, Kate Collins. Miss Mattson appeared before AMC audiences for the first time with her face completely obscured by bandages. The white bandages, wrapped by a real plastic surgeon, and heavy brunette wig obscured her vision so greatly, she could not read her script. After two impressive years portraying the psychotic, yet lovable Janet, Miss Mattson was slated to leave the show in May of 1996, but after ABC was flooded with letters from fans urging the writers to reconsider writing out Janet, the producers signed Robin to a new contract.
After a highly successful run on "Santa Barbara," Robin chose to pursue her lifelong passion for cooking by enrolling in the Gastronomic Directives Course at the Los Angeles International Culinary Institute. After graduation in September, 1993, Robin's newly acquired expertise inspired her to create a cooking show, and to begin developing her own product line including, "The Soap Opera Cafe," a healthy-living cookbook.
Miss Mattson resides in Manhattan and continues to pursue her love of cooking.
