Neal McDonough attended Syracuse University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1988. From there Neal trained at the London Academy of Dramatic Arts and Sciences. In 1991 he won the Best Actor Dramalogue for "Away Alone". Neal has made many televison and film appearence since then.

When Neal was in high school his friends gave him the name of “Mr. BHS” which was a spoof of his high schools name spoofing the Junior Miss Pageant.

Stephen Spielberg saw the work Neal did in Band of Brothers and gave him a role in Minority Report.
