Katherine won an Emmy for Grey's Anatomy in 2007 and was slated to be in the race again for the 2008 Awards, but she withdrew her name because she felt that the show's most recent 4th season (which was affected by a writer's strike and was not considered the best season of the series) "didn't give her the material" to rightfully be up as an Emmy candidate. Katherine received a lot of heat from the media by criticizing the writers who were involved with Season 4. (edit) When Katherine appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show in 2007, shortly before Knocked Up was released, she wore a white blouse and skirt with a belt, an outfit that flaunted her very thin frame. Some may notice that she was walking funny when she came out, and when she sat down with Ellen, she joked that she bought the outfit because she loved it so much, but she didn't test it beforehand to see if it was comfortable to sit in, so when she tried crossing her legs, it produced very awkward results on live television. (edit) Judd Apatow, who directed the 2007 comedy Knocked Up, says that Katherine was chosen for the lead role because she seemed like the only actress who would be believable as a person who actually liked Seth Rogan's ruggedy, immature, teddy-bear-like character. (edit) Katherine was nominated in 2008 for a SAG Award along with her Grey's Anatomy castmates for Outstanding Performanace by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. (edit) Katherine made headlines in 2008 by criticizing some elements of her 2007 film Knocked Up, which helped catapult her to superstardom. Katherine believes that the women in the movie were portrayed as "humorless shrews." (edit)

Katherine: (after pulling out of the 2008 Emmy Award nominations) I am truly grateful for the honour that the Academy bestowed upon me last year. I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the Academy organisation, I withdrew my name from contention. (edit) Katherine: (about getting criticized for defending "Grey's Anatomy" co-star T.R. Knight, who is gay, when another co-star called him a name) Part of me was so shocked and appalled that people found what I said so unusual. You know what I mean? To me, it was the most natural thing in the world to do. I just felt like in that moment, I wasn't trying to make a political point. I was simply trying to say that in light of us all being human beings, and in this whole race together, we should be kinder and more compassionate. It is never, ever right to actively seek to hurt someone's feelings, and it doesn't matter what your race, or your gender, or your sexual orientation are. Everything now has become being "politically correct," and that's not what this was about. (edit) Katherine: (about filming graphic birthing scenes in "Knocked Up") I've always planned on adopting anyway, but those scenes definitely reinforced my decision. I'm done with the whole idea of having my own children. It doesn't seem like any fun to me. I don't think it's necessary to go through all that. (edit) Katherine: (about being typecast as her "Grey's Anatomy" character) We're all familiar with how Jennifer Aniston moves and how Courteney Cox speaks, because of 10 years on Friends. But I think if I can find roles that are different enough from Izzie, I can find a way to shake her. (edit) Katherine: I just want to play happy people. I'm a commercial kind of gal, and yeah, I would love to do a Monster, but I don't have any grand aspirations to do an Academy Award-winning movie. I love Kate Winslet, but I know I couldn't have her career. Her choices are so fascinating and character-driven. But you've gotta drag me to see movies like Babel and Children of Men. Honestly, The Notebook is one of my all-time favorite movies. (edit)
