Jackie flakes out, and doesn't show up on time, so Becky is in charge until Jackie arrives. While out, they see an old friend who is divorcing her husband, and start to wonder what their lives would be like if they hadn't married.

4. Language Lessons

Anything that she says is grating on his nerves, so when she says that his "special chili" is bland, he loses it. Roseanne is caught in the middle, as the two of them pull her in each direction for support. The arguing explodes, and Roseanne is left to straighten it all out.
5. Radio Days
First aired: 11/29/1988 Production Code: 206A local radio station is hosting a songwriting contest that unleashes creativity in Dan and Roseanne, who dig up some old love letters for inspiration. Dan finds the perfect poem that she wrote for him years ago, and enters it as his love song. Booker unleashes uncontrolled impulses in Jackie. Becky and Darlene bicker over territory.

Dan was enjoying the perfect birthday party provided by Roseanne at The Lobo, with all of his friends, when a drunk musclehead jerk picks a fight. Dan tries to defuse the situation, to no avail, and a fight breaks out. After he is reminded by Roseanne of a promise that he'd made not to fight, Dan walks off, and leaves his manhood in the bar. Meanwhile, Becky breathlessly awaits a dinner invitation from her new heartthrob, Chip.

14. Father's Day

As the visit drags on for them, the insults are hurled in Dan's direction and Roseanne steps in between the two of them to deflect any further damage. Dan sees his father's philosophy of "Work smart, not hard" as a direct put-down on his life, while his father sees it as caring advice.
15. Nightmare on Oak Street
First aired: 2/14/1989 Production Code: 215The girls watch a slasher-horror film, and Roseanne has been losing sleep, due to what she believes are Darlene's re-occurring nightmares. When the truth is revealed, that the scary movie isn't behind the insomnia, Roseanne learns that Darlene is entering puberty.

First aired: 2/21/1989 Production Code: 216Roseanne takes her reluctant family on a shopping spree at the Lanford mall. Dan can't find a parking space and he doesn't feel like replacing his worn-out shoes anyway. Becky wants a dress that her mother thinks is too expensive. Darlene keeps bugging her parents for money, while Jackie ponders the direction of her life, as directed by a motivated salesman.

Becky is unusually uptight and antsy when her boyfriend Chip's parents are invited to eat dinner at the Conner house. Bonnie and Edgar are a couple of uptight socialites, that Roseanne and Dan are having a bit of a hard time relating to. When delays with dinner extend their visit, Becky disappears. Roseanne finds her AND the reason for her attitude out in the backyard.

After she sees that a diner is still open, she ducks in, hoping to steal a moment of silence and a cup of coffee. In talking to the waitress that is closing the diner, Roseanne heads back home with a different attitude towards home life.
