LEX, RYAN and ZANDRA approach the newly-formed group, aiming to steal their food - but are set upon once more by the LOCUSTS. AMBER`s group hide in a nearby shopping mall. As they advance threateningly, they are caged between the security grille doors by JACK, who claims to own the Mall. JACK invites the others to sleep in the furniture shop. A mysterious figure is watching the group as they wake for the first time in the Mall. AMBER tells DAL they cannot abandon the others - the children would never survive alone. They decide to form a new Tribe of their own, make a home in the Mall, and in sharing supplies and resources, forge a safer future. They must first face a dilemma: what to do with the prisoners? If they are forced out into the city, they might lead the LOCUSTS to the Mall in revenge; but if they can be trusted, could they join the newly-formed Tribe? AMBER offers LEX a choice - to join the Tribe on their terms or take his chances on the streets - but he is unrepentant. The confrontation between them is interrupted by PAUL - he can "feel" an intruder in the Mall. AMBER and DAL go to investigate. They return without having found anything, but decide they must allow the others to join them for sheer strength of numbers. LEX reluctantly agrees, and he and RYAN go looking for the intruder; the mysterious figure of BRAY leads them out onto the city streets, and then gives them the slip. By the time LEX and RYAN return, BRAY, who has doubled back, has made friends with the rest of the Tribe. LEX does not believe he should be allowed to stay, but is overruled. However, LEX seems to be proven right when they wake the next morning to find BRAY gone - along with precious food and water. As LEX and AMBER argue, BRAY returns to the Mall - bringing with him the very pregnant TRUDY.

The Tribe needs a leader, badly. LEX offers to fight BRAY for the role, but to AMBERís rage and disappointment peacenik and introvert BRAY isn`t interested in getting this involved. AMBER tells LEX she`ll contest the leadership with him - but it will be decided by democratic vote. Luckily for LEX`s ambitions, he still has a dirty trick or two up his sleeve ... PATSY and PAUL are losing all JACKís secret store of food to RYAN in poker. By now JACK is getting heartily sick of being blackmailed - and even RYAN is curious about where all this food is coming from. He follows PATSY and JACK to the food store. Sprung! CLOE tells the calf all about the upcoming election. But is AMBER playing to lose? By means of either bullying or bribery, LEX wins the vote - ten to three, which is odd as there were only twelve voters ... AMBER forestalls any objections; LEX is the clear winner. JACK warns him that if anything goes wrong, JACK will tell about LEX stealing water rations. The trial commences. If convicted, what will JACK`s punishment be? RYAN suggests starvation, or, as a humane alternative, a public flogging. JACK is horrified. AMBER is the voice of reason: the Tribe must use this opportunity to draw up a set of rules, like their own law, and ensure that any penalty is just. LEX remarks that if JACK is convicted, other possible crimes must be considered - gambling for rations, for example, or knowing about someone else`s food stash and keeping quiet ... Instantly half the jury is won over, and by a narrow margin JACK is found innocent. As leader, LEX draws up a whole new work rota - which gives all the work to the girls, leaving the "men" free for defence training. BRAY is the only one who refuses to play ball. AMBER encourages the others to object, but when LEX remains steadfast, accepts the new status quo. SALENE can`t believe it - what`s AMBER up to? TRUDY`s condition is worsening. She picks a fight with SALENE about BRAY and the BABY. SALENE is startled and hurt - after all she`s done for TRUDY! The girls meet in the dead of night to decide on a plan of action about their new workload. They will do - absolutely nothing until LEX and the boys can be made to see reason. LEX wants T-bone steak for breakfast - CLOE manages to persuade him milk on demand will be a better long-term bet, and BLUEBELL lives to moo another day. AMBER surprises BRAY and TRUDY giggling over LEX`s courage under fire, and yells at BRAY - how dare he allow the little ones to be so frightened when he knew all along what the noise was? RYAN has a wonderfully creative solution ... LEX, in a fit of pique, decides that since the calf isn`t providing milk, it must become steak instead. But at the moment of truth, he is more sensitive and New Age than macho. CLOE finds the wandering Bluebell and leads her away into the woods while LEX secretly watches ... AMBER suggests an honourable out for LEX - why not split up the responsibilities of leadership? LEX claims TAI-SAN has been responsible for his spiritual awakening. Why not continue this mutually beneficial teacher-pupil relationship? TAI-SAN agrees - if that`s what LEX really wants. Of course, there is one strict rule: spiritual teachers never get it on with their pupils. DAL and the band of NOMADS are joined by SASHA, a happy-go-lucky artistic/acrobatic/musical/juggling/jester type. TRUDY receives a chilly reception. Is her newfound maternal instinct for real? To TRUDYís surprise, SALENE hands BRADY over without protest. AMBERís not impressed - any more dramas and sheís out! LEX, getting nowhere with TAI-SAN, admits to ZANDRA he is guilty of minor neglect. The truth is LEX was interested in TAI-SAN - but in her beliefs, not her body. He assures ZANDRA he`s seen the light - heís over all that deep and meaningful stuff now ... TRUDY is taken aback by the recent intimacy between BRAY and AMBER, while back at the NOMAD camp, DAL confides in SASHA: heís torn between a way of life and TRUDY. TRUDY`s grateful to SALENE for giving her baby back. Who knows what would have happened without her? SALENE is very uncomfortable, knowing what so nearly happened with her. TRUDY reveals sheís over BRAY - but then, so is SALENE. KC begins to win over the Tribe - even PATSY. TRUDY tells AMBER about the proposed Gathering. LEX is convinced itís a trap, but AMBER and BRAY are less cynical - the possible rewards are probably worth the risk. TAI-SAN puts ZANDRA`s mind at rest. Nothing was going on between she and LEX - just sex! ZANDRA goes ballistic. DAL has made up his mind - he must follow TRUDY. But beneath the NOMADS` thin veneer of utopian ideals lurks something far more menacing - and DAL isnít going anywhere ...
