Will Randall is fleeing from a posse and attempts to steal Johnny's horse. Johnny catches him and turns him over to the posse. Later, Randall's daughter tells him that her father is being framed.

Johnny finds a strange man at an abandoned Army post. The man is babbling like a crazy man. He tells Johnny he acts crazy to keep the Indians from killing him. Suddenly the Indians reappear.

Johnny is beaten up by two ex-Union soldiers. They want to know where the gold cache worth two million dollars is but Johnny doesn't know anything about it.

Johnny comes across a family of squatters in desperate need of help. The nearby townspeople think that the squatters have diphtheria.

Johnny comes across the camp of a group of scavengers on a cold winter night. They have been besieging the home of a family with the intent of taking over their home for the winter. The scavengers are running low on ammo and try to trick the homesteaders into giving them some.

Johnny is talked into taking a temporary job as a schoolmaster. But one of his students is giving him a hard time because his sweetheart has a crush on Johnny.

Sime Trask goads Johnny into a gunfight and Johnny is forced to kill him. Johnny and the sheriff go to try and explain Trask's death to his widow.

Johnny is ambushed by three young boys. The boys proceed to tell him about their plans to rob the bank.

Johnny Yuma fulfills a promise made to a dying Union soldier. He rides into Lassiter City to return a keepsake medal to the boy's family. The mother proudly receives the medal and then asks Yuma to stay on as a cowhand.

A corrupt sheriff arrests Johnny on a charge of vagrancy and he ends up with a gang of slave laborers.

The editor of the newspaper in a frontier town tells Johnny that the town is trying a new approach to law and order. They are going to attempt to make sure that everyone in the town is unarmed.
