Pete Murray is caught and is sent to jail, leaving his daughter Olivia Murray in charge of the family business, a vast criminal operation. Pete's assistant Bill Peterson takes Olivia to "The Metro" an inner city apartment block where Pete owns the penthouse on the top floor from where he runs his business, and a police station has just been set up on the bottom floor. Given no choice in whether she stays or goes, Olivia is forced to learn things about her father that she never imagined.
Meanwhile, Con and Debbie at the police station are confronted with a young girl, Belinda Clark, who is being stalked by an old friend. Debbie's flatmate Vicki is devastated when her co-worker Sean, with whom she was having an affair, is hit by a car and permanently crippled while attempting to help a man.

Olivia demands that Bill let her see her father in jail. However, she becomes more upset with her father when he sends someone else to talk to her instead of seeing her in person. Belinda's stalker Dee Anne becomes angry with Con, who is protecting Belinda, and destroys his prized motorbike infront of the Metro. Sean dies while in hospital and Vicki meets his wife, Narelle, who takes an instant disliking to Vicki.
4. Snapshots and Cottontails

Belinda is at the mercy of psychopath Dee Anne, who locks both of them inside her apartment and no-one else at the Metro suspects that anything is wrong with Belinda. After almost letting their emotions get the better of them, Olivia and Matt slow down their relationship when they decide it's too complicated because he works for her. Vicki's lawyer Zac attempts to seduce her, despite the fact that Sean has just died, and Vicki is having difficulty coping. Vicki's brother Skeez convinces both Debbie and Vicki to let him move in with them.
5. Send in the Clown

Olivia overhauls the business accounts and takes charge, realising she may have bitten off more than she can chew after a nasty encounter with Norman Bateson. Debbie's ex-husband John, also in the police force, arrives to handle the aftermath of Belinda's ordeal with Dee Anne, who jumped off the top of the Metro building, but both John and Debbie find it difficult to work around each. Con provides Belinda with the support she needs in the aftermath, staying with her the whole night, but his attraction to her is obvious.
6. Behold a Pale Horse

Olivia has continuous nightmares about horses and demands that Bill tell her what her connection to horses is. Bill explains to her that her father also owns a racetrack, stables and horses. Olivia decides that in order to balance out the accounts she might have to sell the stables, and, of course Bill disagrees. Belinda is still having a difficult time readjusting to normal life, and has a mental breakdown when she goes back to work for the first time since the ordeal.
7. Wiser Counsel

Olivia makes a final decision about her father's stables, after meeting with some of the workers. Difficulties handling the aftermath continue for Belinda and Con takes matters in hand.

Vicki is taken in for questioning, she is now the main suspect in Sean's murder, following an interview with his wife, who denies a meeting that the two of them had when Sean died. Olivia takes Debbie to the stables on her day off, and the two of them spend the day riding horses. However when Bill decides to send a "message" to Norman Bateson in the form of destroying his car, Debbie realises it was all a clever setup to give Olivia an alibi.

Belinda leaves Sydney for London, without any notice, leaving just a note for Matt, asking him to look after her apartment. This prompts Con to become jealous, since he was the one who helped her through the aftermath. Despite being advised by both her lawyer Zac, and the police not to attend Sean's funeral, Vicki attends anyway, and becomes entangled in another argument with Sean's widow. Several bodies are discovered in a local park, and Con and Debbie fear that a serial killer may be on the loose.
10. Chaos Theory

Vicki seeks solace at her mother's house when she knows that there will be no way out of her murder charge. But, when another patient unexpectedly dies in hospital, Con and Debbie discover an interesting twist to Vicki's case, which may just save her, with the help of an old woman who voluntarily cares for the patients who are sure to die.
11. Virgins and Whores

Olivia visits one of her father's brothels and wants to shut it down because she doesn't agree with the morality of it. In an act of protest, Bill gets her to have a talk with some of the workers there, Mary, Rosa and Sharon. After being kicked out of Vicki and Debbie's apartment, Skeez moves in with Matt, who is also looking after Belinda's dog Kenworth while she's in London. Not coping with the combination, Matt sleeps with one of the workers from the brothel when she stops by his restaurant, not knowing that she's a whore. Skeez, meanwhile takes some time out to mourn the anniversary of the death of his friend Jesse, who died of a drug overdose.

Bill employs Stan to check over Joan, the manager of the Murray's brothel's, accounts. When he discovers that a significant amount of money each year is unaccounted for, Bill goes on his own vendetta against Joan, without Olivia knowing. In the meantime, Sunny seeks help when she can't stand the beatings her husband gives her at home anymore, and spends the night in Belinda's abandoned apartment, but won't let Bill, Olivia, or anyone else help her anymore than that.

After Matt kicks Skeez out of his apartment, Skeez runs away and loses contact with Vicki, who becomes worried, and desperately searches for him, hoping he's okay. She tracks him down at the rave club, where he tells her he wants nothing more to do with her. Debbie's brother Michael and his boyfriend Nathan announce that they want to get married, and Debbie shares her concern about such a grand sweeping declaration of love between two gay men, and the implications it may have on their parents who live in a small country town, and are unaware of their son's sexuality. When Sunny mentions to Bill she is having problems with her twin daughters, he takes it upon himself to lecture the twins which triggers a runaway situation.

Bill and Sunny go on a desperate search for Teresa when they find Isobel and she reveals that they were kidnapped by Joan Bartlett and Terry Forbes in an act of retalliation for closing down their whorehouse. Tensions rise amongst the group of Olivia, Bill, Sunny, her husband Carlos and their daughter Isobel as they fight over affairs, beatings and whether or not to involve the police. Meanwhile, Debbie's life takes an interesting turn with the arrival of a handsome journalist, Jack Glover, who is writing a story about community policing for a local rag.

Vicki and Skeez throw an impromptu party in celebration of Michael and Nathan's departure and imminent marriage. With the party in full swing, Matt decides to take Olivia along, but the two of them get held up at Olivia's apartment. Debbie is convinced that she will have a good time at this party, and goes all out on clothing, and drinking. And Belinda unexpectedly returns in the middle of party, giving them reason to continue the festivities!

Olivia meets Sylvia, her allegedly dead mother, for the first time. When Bill suspects that there's more to Sylvia's story than meets the eye, he employs a private detective to keep an eye on her. He discovers that she is seeing Bateson, which throws further doubts onto her claims. Skeez in the meantime, after a lot of begging and pleading, moves in with Belinda, while Debbie and Con are under pressure over their disappearance from the party, with Vicki intent on figuring out their secret.
17. Girl's Day In

Geri, Belinda's mentor from London, arrives. However, Belinda is concerned when she finds Geri crying. Meanwhile, a lazy Sunday afternoon at the Metro finds the girls over at Olivia's for an afternoon of tarot card reading. Debbie is deeply affected by the outcome of her reading, that points to hidden pains she is yet to overcome.
18. Daddy's Girl

Skeez promises to help his friend Caitlin, pregnant to a boyfriend who abandoned her, yet Skeez feels a lot stronger about the unborn child, going so far as to lie to the boyfriend. Uncomfortable with the attention and love, Caitlin asks Skeez to back off and let her take care of her own problems, sending Skeez into a spiral of depression. Meanwhile, Vicki begins to believe that perhaps Josip may be the right man for her, and asks him out on a date.

When Con discovers that his chilhood friends Tibor and Sam are into drug dealing, he becomes torn between loyalty to friends and loyalty to his duties as a cop. It's an important turning point as he realises he can't go back once he chooses his path. Meanwhile, Debbie is having problems with a young man who continually graffitis the outside of the police station with personal insults directed at her.
20. Friendship First

Matt's life is thrown into turmoil with the unexpected reappearance of his former love, Anna. Anna was the one Matt was going to marry, but his dreams collapsed when she dumped him for another man. Meanwhile, Con has been suspended from service in the police force, leaving Debbie as the lone police officer at the Metro Police Station.
21. A Day, A Life

When Vicki calls Debbie out to assist at the scene of an infant's death, she unwittingly touches a highly emotional subject for Debbie, forcing Debbie to reveal a secret. Meanwhile, Bateson is going to make a profit from the demise of John's operation, and in doing so, opens the door to Con's salvation. Bill is attacked, and kidnapped, leaving Olivia very worried about his whereabouts.
22. Learning Curve

When Pete is stabbed in prison, Olivia is devastated, and maintains a vigil by his bedside in hospital. When he regains consciousness, he and Olivia finally have an opportunity to make up, and set things straight. Meanwhile, Bill is found horribly bashed at the base of The Metro building. He refuses to give any information to Debbie, who believes that tensions are going to escalate.

25. Flatline Fever

Vicki and Josip are called to an emergency in a condemned building. A man has been assaulted and left for dead at the bottom of a lift shaft. As Vicki discovers that he went to high school with her, she fights to keep him alive, but the building soon proves to be a death trap. When Olivia refuses to share her problems with Matt, he begins to suspect that all is not all right, and breaks up with her because she won't trust him, throwing her further over the edge.

Belinda decides that she's had enough of working and living with Skeez, and moves into a new apartment. The problem is she needs to find two flatmates to share with, and opens the invitation out to Debbie, Con and Vicki. Because she can only take two of them, a fight ensues. Pete Murray is moved into a prison hospital and despite Olivia and Sunny's protests, he is refused to move back into a normal hospital where he can be properly treated. Meanwhile, Belinda takes Matt out to one of her celebrity functions, and Matt meets a publicist, Carla, who arranges for an event to be held at his restaurant, giving him some much-needed publicity. However, everything comes with a catch in the industry...
